Desiderium
On longing for something never owned
Desiderium — (n., Latin) an ardent longing or grief for something lost or absent
Pages scatter on the dusty floor, unswept for days, ink-stained like my fingers. I tear them, crumple them, the write some more — a slow pour of the ache that lingers. It simmers inside my chest like witch's brew — a potion to be corked and named in Latin after the longing that I feel only for you. It wraps around my skin like softest satin, coils low in my belly, pools at my feet like moonlight on bruised water — light but deep, And as the midnight slowly closes in, I tear it up again and weep.
