Galaxies In Her Coffee
Haiku Café Summer Series 2026 — Invitation to Stillness

morning does not waitLife has been chaos lately.
Hours of back-and-forth driving down the country roads, different school schedules and half-days spent in town because making yet another trip is not practical, and research that landed on my palms unexpectedly in November and took the last ounce of my bandwidth.
And in between all that, an occasional solo parenting stretch that seems to attract all sorts of mishaps — from a choking incident to the dogs going missing, to burst water mains and, very timely, a stomach bug.
There was just no time to stop. To sit. To watch. To listen.
No time to panic, even — because in times of crisis, my mind gets so clear, it feels surreal. It may be just the self-preservation instinct, or something else. But where a normal situation causes anxiety like a multiple choice answer with no clearly formulated question, these crises weathered on my own become a clear-headed troubleshooting processes. First A, then B, then C.
And the panic comes later, when I’m alone in bed and every sound makes me jump because the nervous system is on high alert.
The morning after my daughter’s stomach bug, I made myself a cup of coffee and sat down on the sunlit porch. And it felt like for the first time in days, the time stopped for me while the world kept going.
I heard the birds sing.
Noticed the dogs run in zig-zags chasing each other.
Felt the warmth of the morning sun against the cold air.
Watched the galaxies swirl in my coffee crema.
And breathed.
This is what Haiku Café is about.
An invitation to slow down and notice.
A moment to breathe.
And if something in the texture of that moment wants to be written, write it.
No pressure to share. No competition.
If you choose to share your words with me, I will read them gladly and share to honour your creation.
I hope you have a wonderful month of May, filled with little pockets of slow breath while the world keeps turning.
Sending love and light,
Lana
