Unasked
On things that bloom out of season
Unasked — written for First Line Poets April Challenge on Instagram, featuring the line 'summer taught me' by @whispersfromhersoul Spring taught me some things bloom without a reason: Heart trapped behind the body’s hardest bone, Like whin, stubbornly soft and out of season, Unfolds unasked against the sharpest thorn. Summer taught me nothing lasts forever: Even the tended blooms begin to fade. The petals and the light withdraw together, Forfeiting every loving promise made. Fall taught me letting go is not defeat: The red leaves do not fail to hold on — They are the scabs of wounds that used to bleed, Healed over, quiet, though never truly gone. Winter taught me silence isn’t death — It is return to self that gave too much; A place to rest, to draw the needed breath Before surrendering to spring’s first touch. — 30 April 2026 Text + Soul © Lana E.
